 This one's a weird one, and I'm not sure from what year. Not even positive it's Halloween--but if the kid on the left's not dressed like Charlie McCarthy then it's even weirder...

July Means Halloween's less than four months away...

First comes this cool Ben "The King of Halloween Masks" Cooper costume from 1982. Now I was much more of a Bruce Lee fan than Chuck Norris, but he was still pretty cool.

Then we have a cool tchotchke from, I would guess, the 80's. Not sure, but I do enjoy these things and have quite a few. If I had a bigger house I'd have even more...

Lastly here's something you might think Beistle had made, but it's actually the Eureka Company. I don't know much about them--they were never as prominent as Beistle, but they still did some cool stuff.

It's a die-cut cardboard haunted house.

Hard to Believe...Only 4 Months Away!

The weather's getting hot so it's hard to believe we're only about four months away from Halloween!

So while we're waiting, here's some more cool stuff!

First up is this 1967 ad for Polaroid film. Remember Polaroids? And having to wave them around to dry after they came out?

Then here's 2 sheets advertising 1961 Tom Sawyer Candies. Never heard of them, so I guess they went out of business before my time.

Finally a little Disney magic. I'm not sure what the date is, but ever since I first saw The Legend of the Headless Horseman as a kid, Disney has cemented a place in my Halloween memories.

Vintage Photos!

Blackface? Yep.

I'm a big fan of vintage Halloween photos. Nothing like seeing glimpses into the past, and seeing what Halloween meant to other people. 

The variety of costumes. The cars and houses in the backgrounds.

Here's some, from the 30's to the 70's, maybe 80's...

Hershey's Ghosts & 1983 Flyer Plus Wonder Bread Costume

Here's a cute pair of Hershey Chocolates Ghosts--I think they were door hangers, and I'm not sure what year they're from because they have no date on either side.

Then there's this 1983 mini-booklet. I have a good scan in my book--this is a crappy version from an eBay listing. The booklet is 4 pages with some recipes, but the cover's really the best thing about it.

You can find them on eBay pretty cheap the way I did.

 And lastly another eBay find is this Wonder Bread infant costume that would be pretty cool for your baby.

Halloween Masks

 Masks and costumes! They go hand in hand in hand with Halloween. Here's a group of masks, very Ben Cooper-like. I can't verify whether they are in fact Ben Cooper. Wouldn't surprise me.

And of course, there's a scary clown mask in there. Gotta have that, right?

Then there's a Rubie's "Corpse" mask from 1985. I talk a little bit about Rubie's in the book--they're a large company that ended up buying not only the Ben Cooper company but the Collegeville company who also made masks.

I owned a mask very much like this. I keep an eye out for the mask I actually had, but have never seen it since roughly 1983. Apparently it was pretty freaking rare...

James O'Barr Scary Scarecrow

Sometimes I stumble upon a picture that's very cool so I have to save it. In this case it's strange because I owned a comic book shop for 17 years. I'm well aware of who J. O'Barr is, and have even met him a few times at various conventions.

He's the creator of the Crow, and I've seen just about every well-known picture by him...but I'd never seen this one before.

Too cool not to share--the traditional pumpkin-headed scarecrow about to pounce on The Crow.
