Creepy Kids, Creepy Masks, Creepy Lipstick

From assorted newspapers or magazines that I went through in the research. These ads, while creepy, don't exactly fit into the book so here you go!

From 1950 here's some of the creepiest kids since Village of the Damned. If I didn't want to eat shredded wheat before(I didn't) then I definitely don't now.

I don't have an exact date for this next one but I do know that creepy porcelain masks will not make me want to buy stuff. Maybe it's just me.

From 1945 comes this inexplicable ad for anti-freeze. How long would you have to stare at this ad to figure out that's what they're selling? Yeah, a while.

Personalized Pumpkins

This web site will make personalized pumpkins for you. Ran across it and thought it was pretty cool.

That's just the concept photo above that they'll show ya to give you an idea how it works. Will have to order one.

Highbury Cemetery

That's a pic from a great little Halloween haunt called Highbury Cemetery. They were nice enough to let us use a couple of pics in the book, and we hope we can make it out there soon.

To say they decorate their house for Halloween is a bit of an understatement. Head on over to their web site to check out pictures--they get better every year!

Creepy Halloween Automaton Decorations

Found these old videos I'd shot last year or the year before. From one of those Halloween stores that pop up every year.

A lot of very cool things that would be awesome on your porch for Halloween.

Vintage Halloween Ads

I've got a pretty big section in the book(out October of 2015) about ads--it's not only fun to see ads from different time periods, but to see ones you grew up with and there's plenty to see--it just takes a LOT of digging through old magazines and newspapers.

Here's an ad from Famous Monsters Magazine for some cool masks:

This I don't remember, but 12 year old me would have LOVED a Kung Fu Halloween!

This ad's not that uncommon, but still pretty cool and I do remember it:

More to come!

Library of Congress Findings

Having spent weeks combing through old magazines, old newspapers, and everything else I could find netted a TON of stuff. Way more than I could ever fit in one(or even two) books.

The Library of Congress has some cool images that for one reason or another I didn't use.

The first is a vintage photo from 1938 showing a Halloween party at a campground.

The second image is a library poster you might have found at the library in 1940.

Halloween: The Greatest Holiday Of All

I've been working on a book about Halloween for the last 18 months. It's a giant showcase of the weird, the nostalgiac, the interesting things about Halloween you may not have seen or known.

But I've come across a lot of stuff that I just can't fit into the book for some reason. Maybe the picture's not good enough for print, or I have too many pictures of a certain item. Or it could be a video.

Whatever the reason, I'm going to start posting a lot of those pics here.

Like this Ben Cooper Fonzi costume from 1976. I do have an entire section on the Ben Cooper costumes which were an integral part of trick or treating back in my day.

If I didn't have this costume I definitely remember seeing it on many kids. (though I'm pretty sure I DID have it)

Anyway, keep an eye out for my book, coming by early October this year!
